Salaat followed by Quran recitation and the main talk by Kasia Narkowicz on Going beyond white feminism.
The talk will introduce some of the central themes in the feminist movement, mapping its accomplishments as well as its failures - which include feminist alliances with racist and Islamophobic narratives. Going beyond mainstream feminism commonly associated with white, middle class womens struggle for rights, we will discuss possibilities for an inclusive feminist movement.
Kasia completed a Masters Degree in Ethnology and Gender Studies at University of Stockholm whilst she concurrently worked as a freelance journalist, focusing on issues around gender, sexuality and race/ethnicity.
After completing a PhD in Human Geography at the University of Sheffield, she went on to work as a researcher at the Woolf Institute (University of Cambridge) working on two projects: inter-faith grassroots activism in the UK and Muslims and End of Life Care.
